A Man On A Mission

Acts 21:1-15

Pastor Duke Crawford                                           August 17, 2008

Introduction:

1.  All of us have God-given responsibilities we are Spirit bound to fulfill.

- Marriage

“The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” And He answered and said to them, “have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ “and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? “So then, they are no longer two but one flesh.  Therefore what God has joined together, let not one man separate.” Matthew 19:3-6

-Parenting

“and you fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” –Ephesians 6:4

-Employment

“Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ. Not with eyeservice, as men pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.”                                                                  –Ephesians 6:5-9

-Christian Conduct

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.” –Ephesians 4:1

2.  Therefore, we must resolve to faithfully fulfill them.

Jonathan Edwards’ example

  1. Resolved, That I will do whatsoever I think to be most to the glory of God, and my own good, profit, and pleasure, in the whole of my duration…

2.   Resolved, to do whatever I think to be my duty, and most for the good and

      advantage of mankind in general.

3. Resolved, Never lose one moment of time, but to improve it in the most profitable    way I possibly can.

4. Resolved, To live with all my might, while I do live.

5. Resolved, Never to do any thing, which I should be afraid to do if it were the last

     hour of my life.

6. Resolved, Never, henceforward, till I die, to act as if I were any way my own, but     entirely and altogether God’s.

Application:

1. Ask yourself, “What are my responsibilities and what is my resolve to faithfully    fulfill them?”

     2. Begin a list of resolutions based on your reading and studying of the Word
