The Context of the Cross

Hebrews 9:11-14

1.  The Cross in the Past (Hebrews 9:11-14;14-28)

2. The Cross in Daily Living (Galatians 2:20; 6:14)

Keeping the Cross before us reminds us of a few things:

Our sin (Rom. 5:8)

The eternal defeat of Satan – Heb. 2:14 –

“Since therefore the children share in
flesh and blood, he himself likewise
partook of the same things, that
through death he might destroy the
one who has the power of death, that
is, the devil.”

The cleansing of our sin by the blood of Christ (I John 1:7)

The triumph of our Savior (John 19:38)

The great exchange of our unrighteousness for His righteousness (2 Cor. 5:21).

In the Cross we see the very sin that we struggle with on a daily basis being paid
for in full in Christ!

3. The Cross in the Future  (1 Peter 3:18)

1 Peter 3:18 teaches us that the Cross has brought us to God in an eternal relationship.

1 Corinthians 1:18 – “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
