Preached by Pastor Mike Hess Sunday evening 02/07/2010.

Treasuring Christ Together: With our Stewardship

2 Corinthians 8:9

Introduction:

Salvation

Redemption

Forgiveness

Scripture

God’s Presence

God’s Promises

God’s Provision

Heaven

I. An Issue of the Heart (2 Corinthians 8:1-9)

II. An Issue of Perspective (Matthew 6:19-21)

“Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases.  For when he dies  he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go  down after him.”       Psalm 59:16-17

III. An Issue of Control

“You have not lied to men but God.” Acts 5:4

“The act of giving is a vivid reminder that it’s all  about God, not about us.  It’s saying I am not the point, He is the point.  He does not exist for me, I exist for Him.  God’s money has a higher  purpose than my affluence.  Giving is a joyful surrender to a greater person and a greater  agenda.  Giving affirms Christ’s lordship.  It dethrones me and exalts Him.  It breaks the  chains of mammon that would enslave me.” Randy Alcorn

“For me to live is Christ, and to die to gain.” Philippians 1:21

“and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for  their sake died and was raised.” 2 Corinthians 5:15

Closing Thoughts:

1. Stewardship deals with so much more than money – it deals with all of our life – time, possessions, gifts, talents, family and resources.

2. Giving does NOT make you godly!

3. Test yourself tonight – is what you believe about money developed from a Scriptural mindset or    from the commercialism of this day?
