How to Convince Your Parents You Are An Adult

 

I. Some biblical characteristics of a Christian adult.

 

A. A Christian adult lives according to God’s view of _______________  .

 

1. The Bible teaches that the relationship with Christ is incomparably  ________  to anything the world has to offer.

 

2. God  _______________  human beings to find satisfaction in life only one way, pleasing God - Pr. 19:23; 2 Cor. 5:9; John 6:38: 8:29.

 

3. A Christian adult is motivated, by the Holy Spirit, to please God in  ____________  he does – 2 Cor. 5:9,17.

 

4. An adult understands and lives by the biblical teaching that pleasing God is far more  _______________  than pleasing self.

 

5. The _____________  satisfaction in life is pleasing God not pleasing self - 1 Pe 1:8

 

B. A Christian adult lives according to God’s view of  _______________  .

 

1. God’s description of human authority - 1 Pet. 2:13-16; Rom. 13:1,2; Eph. 6:1.

 

2. God’s view of  _______________  authority.

 

a. ____________  for honoring and obeying your parents – Ex. 20:12; Dt. 5:16.

II. The contrast between a believer and a nonbeliever.

III. The contrast between an adult and a child.

1. From 1 Cor. 13:11 an adult  _______________  the self centered motivation of a child.

 

2. 2 Cor. 5:15 presents the same  _______________  between the believer and nonbeliever.

 

3. The only way to truly live as an adult is through _______________  .

 

4. Becoming an adult means  _______________  from the self-centered life of a child to the new way of living motivated to please God.

IV. How to convince your parents you are an adult.

 

A. There is no biblical stage or transition period that our culture has labeled as a  _______________  – 1 Cor. 13:11.

 

B. Demanding to be treated as an adult is  _______________  self-centered thinking.
- That demand automatically _______________  you are not an adult.

 

C. So if your argue with your parents and insist on freedoms your parents disapprove you are actually arguing against the  _______________  who gave you your parents.

 

D. The way to convince your parents you are an adult is by making it very obvious that you  _______________  by God’s standard for adult thinking and behavior.

 

1. The  _______________  satisfaction in life is pleasing God not pleasing self.

 

2.Living by what  ____________  says about pleasing self is a sign of being an adult.

 

3. Accepting superiority of a right relationship with Christ over  _______________  world has to offer is adult.
