The Priority of Worship
Luke 10:38-42
Introduction:
“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
“One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.” Psalm 27:4
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” Romans12:1
I. Ministry of Service (Luke 10:38-39)
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28
In the Gospel we find that both men and women:
1. Both are created in the image of God
2. Both are equally redeemed in Christ
3. Men and women both are indwelt with the Holy Spirit
4. Both men and women are to have distinct roles in the local church
5. We should praise God for the fact that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14)
II. Ministry Distracted (Luke 10:40)
“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Luke 11:28
“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
“Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.” 2 Corinthians10:12
“When business, when family or even when service for Jesus becomes so much a part of one’s life that he has not time to learn from Jesus (studying his Bible prayerfully), then his priorities are all wrong.” Jay Adams
III. Proper Ministry Defined (Luke 10:41-42)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17
Application:
1. Commit your life to the “one thing” that really matters – knowing and loving Christ (Philippians 3:10)
2. Service should be a response to our knowledge of Christ.
3. Remove any obstacles or distractions in your life that keeps you away from growing, learning, and treasuring Christ above all things.
